How You Can Help

What's in this section:

Individuals

Gift Aid

For every £100 donated, the Healing Foundation can recover £28.21 from the Inland Revenue. That’s at no extra cost to the donor, thanks to the Government’s Gift Aid Scheme.

All cash donations made by UK taxpayers (Income tax or Capital Gains) benefit from the Scheme. Moreover, higher rate taxpayers can claim substantial tax relief on their donations.

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we will receive an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue.

On top of this, higher rate taxpayers are eligible to reclaim as much as £23 from the taxman for every £100 donated to charity, by including details of their Gift Aid donations on their Self Assessment form

What's more - one single Gift Aid declaration can apply to all past donations you have made (since April 2000) and to all future donations you make.

Shares

On gifts of listed shares and securities, as well as attracting full relief from capital Gains Tax, UK taxpayers are also able to reclaim Income Tax. This is calculated on the value of the shares or securities at the time of transfer to the Healing Foundation.

Giving shares to charity is not a new idea, but since April 2000, there is a new tax incentive to make Share Giving even more attractive. Individuals who give shares to charity are entitled to claim back full tax relief against the value of those shares. So, a gift of shares worth £1,000 will only cost a higher rate taxpayer £600, or £780 for lower rate taxpayers and furthermore, no capital gains tax will apply.

Legacies

A bequest in your will is one of the most important forms of giving to charity.

A bequest to charity enables you to make a planned gift to a charity you care about, whilst ensuring dependants are provided for. Charitable legacies are paid before tax is deducted, reducing the total amount of inheritance tax due from your estate.
