Our Mission

The Healing Foundation is a national fundraising charity established to champion the cause of people living with disfigurement and visible loss of function by funding research into pioneering surgical and psychological healing techniques. Through research we will also raise awareness about the cause and provide information about the sources of support.

The Need

Hundreds of thousands of people are affected by disfigurement due to congenital abnormalities, disease or scarring from accidents. Surgical procedures also leave scars and patients can be left with severe psychological problems, which they and their families must overcome. Society's obsession with appearance can marginalise those who appear different.

There is an immense need for more research, particularly in areas of tissue regeneration, burns and the psychosocial aspects of healing. At present no national strategy for research exists. There is enormous scope for improved collaboration, education and awareness.
