The Charitable Objects of the Healing Foundation

The Healing Foundation is a new national fundraising charity established in 1999. Our objects are for the relief of sickness and for the preservation and protection of public health by:

Carrying out and funding research into the improvements of treatments for the benefit of people who suffer from physical, psychological, social, or emotional disadvantage as a result of physical disfigurement or functional impairment present at birth or acquired through accident, disease, or illness and into the prevention of accidents which may cause such conditions; and
Disseminating the useful results of such research and to help train health workers in appropriate treatments throughout the world; and
Informing people about the availability of such treatments.

The Role of the Healing Foundation

We are orientated towards research and will:

Promote and fund pioneering research into both physical and psychological aspects of reconstructive surgery and wound healing.
Enhance psychological and practical support for patients and families through the provision of information and advice on availability of assistance, and thus help people address their disfigurement with confidence.
Help to promote and fund training of health workers, both in this country and particularly in developing countries, in the clinical and psychosocial areas of reconstructive surgery.
Through research create greater public awareness of the significant impact of reconstructive surgery, its limitations, the associated medical disciplines, the value of supportive advice and intervention, and the relevance to huge numbers of people.
Through research influence public attitudes towards those living with disfigurements and loss of function.
Strengthen the collaboration and partnership between associated disciplines, including care and counselling bodies, as well as scientific research organisations, thus contributing to the unification of medical professionals and lay support around a single cause.
Through research, assist in the reduction of preventable disfigurements through support for organisations providing education of the community by partnership and collaborative working.
Maximise the fundraising potential on a national basis.

Our research will improve the quality of life of every person affected by addressing congenital, traumatic and acquired conditions; the scope is enormous.
